Lithuania supports Global Pact for Environment initiative
At the session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York on 19 September, an initiative was launched to prepare the 'Global Pact for the Environment' that would introduce provisions for environmental protection and climate change contained in a single document.
Lithuania supports the idea proposed by France that an agreement should be drafted, which would include various elements, combining and, in light of the new challenges, complementing the existing international environmental law.
The Global Pact for the Environment should become a legally binding and universally applicable agreement, proclaiming a body of fundamental environmental rights to be protected, as well as core principles for environmental law.
