LITHUANIA SUPPORTS ARMENIA’S OBJECTIVE TO JOIN THE EU
On 18 November, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas met Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian, who is on official visit to Lithuania. During the meeting bilateral relations between Lithuania and Armenia, situation in South Caucasus region, Armenia's cooperation with the European Union, the European Neighborhood policy issues as well as other international issues were discussed.
Armenian Foreign Minister E.Nalbandian noted that relations with Lithuania are actively developed, the main intergovernmental arrangements are signed, but the potential of trade and economic cooperation is not fully exhausted.
E.Nalbandian also noted that his country hopes to develop cooperation with Lithuania, both on the bilateral ground and in order to deepen relations with the EU.
The Armenian Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of signing free trade and visa facilitation agreements with the EU. According to Minister E.Nalbandian, Armenia is looking for possibilities to simplify the visa regime for the residents of Lithuania.
The Head of Lithuanian diplomacy assured that Lithuania is ready to continue to assist Armenia in integration to the EU.
P.Vaitiekūnas welcomed Armenia's intentions to open an Embassy in Vilnius next year.
“This is a real step that will facilitate cooperation among entrepreneurs, artists, and young people”, said P.Vaitiekūnas.
The Embassy of Lithuania to Armenia was opened in October 2007. Since autumn 2008, the Embassy issues entry visas to Lithuania.
