LITHUANIA STRONGLY CONDEMNS THE TERRORIST ATTACKS AGAINST NEW YORK AND WASHINGTON D.C. AND EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH THE US AFTER THE TRAGEDY

Showing solidarity and expressing sympathy with the families of the victims and all the American people, flags with black ribbons were hoisted throughout Lithuania on Wednesday, September 12, 2001. Flowers and candles have been brought to the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius. Earlier yesterday the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, while on the visit to the United States, made a statement condemning terrorism and expressing condolences to the American people. Foreign minister Antanas Valionis sent a letter of sympathy and support to the US Secretary of State Colin Powell. Other Lithuanian leaders also expressed solidarity and sent condolences to the American nation and offered the assistance in managing the consequences of the tragedy and a contribution to international community attempts to fight terrorism.
