LITHUANIA STRIVES TO GAIN MAXIMUM SUPPORT TO ITS CANDIDACY FOR THE POST OF CHAIRMAN OF THE ORGANIZATION FOR SECURITY AND COOPERATION IN EUROPE

Undersecretary of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Laimonas Talat-Kelpša met Belarusian Ambassador to Lithuania Vladimir Drazhin and asked to support Lithuania’s candidacy for the post of chairman of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe in 2010.

“Belarus is a historical neighbour of Lithuania and its support is important for us,” Mr Talat-Kelpša said.

Ambassador Drazhin marked that Belarus is interested in development of relations with Lithuania and the European Union.

Mr Talat-Kelpša showed interest in how the issue of returning confiscated Lithuanian citizens’ vehicles is being solved.

Ambassador Drazhin informed that actions had been taken on the problem and positive decision of Belarusian authorities should be received shortly.

Undersecretary of Lithuanian Foreign Ministry invited Belarusian institutions to inform Lithuanian society about current and planned changes in border crossing order promptly. According to him, this would help to avoid similar incidents in the future.
