The Ministry notes that the use of the Oreshnik intermediate-range ballistic missile in an attack on the Kyiv region was extremely pointless and demonstrates the Kremlin regime’s desperation. The attacks have no impact on the situation on the battlefield or further course of the war, but targeted apartment buildings, trade objects, cultural and educational institutions (especially the Kyiv School of Economics) in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine. Several civilian casualties and dozens of wounded have already been reported, and the number is likely to be higher given the scale of the attack.
Lithuania categorically rejects any claims by Russian officials justifying last night's and other similar attacks on Ukraine. The Russian Federation’s aggression against its sovereign neighbour, Ukraine, which started in 2014, is the only cause of the deaths of Ukrainian citizens, but also of the citizens of the Russian Federation, in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and other international legal instruments. Lithuania once again demands that Russia immediately stop its hostilities, cease its aggression against Ukraine, withdraw its occupying forces from the entire internationally recognised territory of Ukraine, and compensate for all the damage caused by the Russian aggression against Ukraine.
