Lithuania presents its progress at UN Committee on Elimination of Racial Discrimination

At the 88th session of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination in Geneva on 27 November, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas presented the country’s progress – legal and institutional changes in Lithuania.

Members of the delegation led by Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister acquainted members of the Committee with the new programmes on anti-discrimination and integration of national minorities, informed them about the establishment of the Department of National Minorities in 2014 and public institutions’ efforts to ensure compliance with international commitments. Lithuanian representatives drew attention to challenges posed by Europe’s migration crisis and Lithuania’s readiness to share the burden of taking in and integrating migrants.

The Committee discussed the 6th, 7th and 8th periodic reports submitted by Lithuania to the Committee under article 9 of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.

Lithuania ratified the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination on 10 November 1998.
