Lithuania Pledges Unearmarked Contribution to UNHCR‘s 2022 Budget

On 7 December, Chargé d’Affaires of Lithuania in Geneva Mr Donatas Tamulaitis took part in the annual UNHCR Pledging Conference.

“New and recurring conflicts, COVID-19 and climate change have devastating impact on refugees, displaced and other persons of concern. Tackling both the root causes and consequences of forced displacement, requires strong dedication, ambitious solutions and commitment to humanitarian action,” – Mr Tamulaitis said

He also stressed that the ongoing artificially-created crisis at the EU-Belarus border represents a growing worrisome trend of abuse of asylum systems for political purposes and adds even more burden to already gloomy humanitarian picture.

In order to support UNHCR’s humanitarian efforts around the world, Lithuania annually contributes to it’s budget. D. Tamulaitis announced Lithuania’s pledge for 100,000 euros of unearmarked support to the UNHCR’s activities in 2022. In total, donor governments today pledged a record amount of 1,054 billion US dollars.
