Lithuania opens the 7th Honorary Consulate in Australia

On 26 November, Lithuania officially opened its seventh Honorary Consulate in Australia, in Hobart, Tasmania. The new Honorary Consul of Lithuania is Greg Melick – a former general and a well-known figure in law, defense, and community affairs.

On 26 November, Lithuania officially opened its  seventh Honorary Consulate in Australia, in Hobart, Tasmania. The new Honorary Consul of Lithuania is Greg Melick – a former general and a well-known figure in law, defense, and community affairs.

Greg Melick is highly respected in Tasmania for his long-time service to the community and the state. His professional career spans over four decades of uninterrupted service in law, public administration, defence and community-based activities. He is currently Deputy President of the Commonwealth Administrative Appeals Tribunal and the Chief Commissioner of the Tasmanian Integrity Commission.

The opening ceremony of the Honorary Consulate was attended by the Ambassador of Lithuania to Australia, Darius Degutis, representatives of the Tasmanian government and members of the Lithuanian community.

The event was also attended by Dr Jorian Kippax, who was awarded the Life-Saving Cross for his exceptional courage and professionalism in rescuing the Lithuanian citizen Valdas Bieliauskas during a complex rescue operation in the Franklin River, Tasmania.

The new Honorary Consulate in Hobart is an important step in strengthening ties between Lithuania and Tasmania and will help promote economic, cultural and social cooperation.
