Lithuania opens its second Honorary Consulate in South Korea

On 18 February, the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania, headed by the Honorary Consul In-Kyung Hwang, was inaugurated in Daejeon, South Korea. It is the second Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in South Korea.
When congratulating the new Honorary Consul, the Ambassador of Lithuania to South Korea Ričardas Šlepavičius commended the energy and activism of Ms. Hwang and expressed confidence that her contacts and experience would contribute to the further development of the relations between Lithuania and South Korea.
“We need people who can speak to Koreans about Lithuania in their language and reach their hearts,” said the Ambassador. In-Kyung Hwang is an entrepreneur, writer, and investor who is implementing several successful projects in South Korea and has a wide network of contacts.
Daejeon is the fifth largest city in South Korea, and it has many international-level universities and business innovation organisations. The city is considered to be one of the most important hubs of science, education, research and high-tech development in South Korea. The Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Daejeon will contribute to the development of business and investment relations, promote academic and scientific exchanges and strengthen Lithuania’s cultural visibility in South Korea.
A concert of the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Society - the Čiurlionis Quartet - which continues its tour in South Korea, crowned the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Daejeon. The concert marked the Day of Restoration of the State of Lithuania and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis.
So far, Lithuania has had an Honorary Consulate in Degu, which was established in 2014 and is headed by Kwang-bum Park.
