Lithuania opens its Honorary Consulate in Kenya to strengthen ties with African countries
On 11 December in Nairobi, Kenya, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Raimundas Karoblis officially opened the Honorary Consulate of Lithuania, which will be headed by a prominent lawyer in Kenya, the founder and Senior Partner at Oraro & Company Advocates, Dr. George Oraro.
“We are delighted that Kenya’s prominent political and business figure - Dr. George Oraro – will represent Lithuania in Kenya. I believe that the Honorary Consulate, its head and personnel will be of great help also to Lithuanian businesses, which are slowly entering markets in Africa. I am glad that we will have an excellent contact in one of the fastest growing economies in East Africa, which is not only the region’s financial hub and business centre, but also a gateway for trade for other countries,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister.
The solemn opening ceremony was attended by the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Kenya, Dr. Amina Mohamed, politicians, prominent Kenyan lawyers, CEOs of some Kenyan banks, business organisations, and representatives of Ministries and the Central Bank of Kenya. During the event, Lithuanian diplomats presented important issues related to Lithuania’s economy, the fastest growing economic sectors in Lithuania and their potential.
This is the 9th Honorary Consulate of Lithuania in Sub-Saharan Africa.
During the visit, the delegation led by Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister met with heads of the Kenya Private Sector Alliance (KEPSA) and the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who said that they took interest in possibilities for strengthening relations with Lithuanian business associations, just as with businesses of other Central European countries.
The delegation led by Karoblis begins its participation in the WTO’s Tenth Ministerial Conference in Kenya.
