Lithuania opens an Honorary Consulate in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia
On 28 April, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius officially opened the first Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Lithuania in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “I’m happy to officially welcome Mr Mahfouz Marei bin Mahfouz, who is a member of the famous and respected family in Saudi Arabia, to the club of Lithuanian honorary consuls. I strongly believe that his extensive business connections in Saudi Arabia will facilitate open the Saudi market for Lithuanian entrepreneurs and promote cooperation in the areas of culture, research and development, as well as develop cooperation between universities,” said Linkevičius at the opening ceremony.
Many prominent guests, such as the President of Honorary Consuls in Jeddah Mohamed Attar, the country’s influential businessmen, Jeddah Municipality Mayor Sheikh Hani bin Mohammad Aburas and Secretary General of the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry Adnan bin Hussain Mandoura attended the opening of the Consulate.
Earlier that morning Minister Linkevičius paid a visit to the H. R. H. Prince Mishaal bin Majed bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Jeddah Province.
In Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which incorporates 200 000 members, key export-oriented sectors of the country’s economy - food, biotechnology and textile - were presented by the Lithuanian delegation. A possible visit of Saudi businessmen to Lithuania in 2015 was discussed.
