Lithuania-Oman consultation in Vilnius focuses on economic cooperation and international policy
The 5th consultation of foreign ministries of Lithuania and Oman took place in Vilnius on 26 June. The consultation focused on bilateral relations, discussed the investment promotion and protection agreement negotiations, economic cooperation and important international policy issues.
The Lithuanian delegation was led by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Neris Germanas, the delegation of Oman was headed by the Secretary General Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi.
The delegations exchanged information about the investment promotion and protection agreement negotiations that were opened recently. Both sides reaffirmed their interest in continuing negotiations on a double taxation agreement and an air services agreement.
The meeting discussed the most important issues of bilateral economic cooperation. Joint input to the areas of information technology, trade in food and agricultural products was assessed positively. The delegations discussed a possibility of realising the potential of the fields of energy, trade, investment, tourism, education and culture. N.Germanas welcomed steps taken by the Lithuanian and Omani authorities and honorary consuls to shape the intensifying bilateral agenda.
During the consultations, the officials exchanged opinions on the political and security situation in the Middle East. The diplomats of the two countries stressed the need for political and diplomatic measures to deescalate the situation in the region.
During the visit, Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi had a brief conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius. The Lithuanian Foreign Minister shared information on the latest developments in Ukraine and outcomes of the Meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Commission on 25 June in Brussels.
During the visit, the delegation of Oman also met with the Health Minister Vytenis Povilas Andriukaitis, the Vice-Minister of Transport and Communications Arijandas Šliupas, visited the Vilnius University Hospital Santariškių Klinikos and the company Baltic Solar Energy in Visoriai.
