LITHUANIA MARKS THE INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST VICTIMS’ REMEMBRANCE DAY

On 27 January, the International Holocaust Victims’ Remembrance Day is marked at the United Nations initiative. This day many countries around the world mark the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp and commemorate all the Holocaust victims of the World War II.

In Lithuania, the International Commission for the Evaluation of the Crimes of the Nazi and Soviet Occupation Regimes and the Jewish Community of Lithuania organised an event to mark the International Holocaust Victims’ Remembrance Day, during which the documentary titled From the Lips of Holocaust Witnesses was screened along with a play by pupils-actors at the premises of the Jewish Community of Lithuania. Pupils from schools of different Lithuanian cities also joined this initiative.

This day Lithuania along with many other European and world countries is in solidarity with the Jewish nation, thus honouring the memory of all Holocaust victims and voicing its determination to contribute to the efforts of the democratic world, in order to prevent such a tragedy in the future.
