LITHUANIA-ISRAEL BUSINESS FORUM WAS HELD IN TEL AVIV

During his official visit to Israel on 16 December, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas welcomed about a hundred representatives of business and politics, who took part in the business event, co-organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel and the Israeli-Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce. Minister of Public Diplomacy and Diaspora Affairs Yuli Edelstein, Lithuania’s Ambassador to Israel Darius Degutis, Chairman of the Israel Federation of Bi-National Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Lithuanian Honorary Consul in Israel Amnon Dotan also welcomed the participants.

Chairman of the Board of the Investors Forum Rolandas Valiūnas presented the realities and possibilities of Lithuanian economy. The Lithuanian and Israeli companies that are successfully cooperating, Stumbras and TEVA, were awarded during the business gala. Chairman of the Israeli-Lithuanian Chamber of Commerce Len Judes and Chairman of the Lithuanian-Israeli Chamber of Commerce Vladas Bumelis signed the protocol of cooperation.

The business delegation that is accompanying the Minister attended a business forum on 16 December. During the forum, representatives from Israeli business organizations informed the Lithuanian businessmen about possibilities to establish business contacts in Israel. The business forum was co-organised by the Lithuanian Embassy in Israel and three major business organizations in Israel: the Manufacturers Association of Israel, the Israel Export and International Cooperation Institute and the Federation of Israeli Chambers of Commerce.

After the forum, individual meetings of the Israeli and Lithuanian businessmen took place. Over 40 Israeli businessmen participated in business meetings with Lithuanian enterprises.

Representatives from companies Sicor Biotech, Precizika Metrology, Detagama, Infigure, Agava, Amazing Sales. Com, MTV Baltic, Šiaurės miestelis, Laktapolis, Omnitel, law firm LAWIN and the Lithuanian Confederation of Industrialists are visiting Israel.

The Lithuanian-Israeli trade turnover for the 1st-3rd quarter of 2009 was 43.89 million Litas, the trade balance was positive and amounted to 1.13 million Litas. Lithuania’s exports to Israel for the 1st-3rd quarter of 2009 were 22.5 million Litas. The Lithuanian-Israeli trade during the past three years more than doubled.

Lithuanian companies export engineering equipment, alimentary products, agricultural and other products to Israel. The main sectors of imports from Israel to Lithuania are mineral products, food industry, agricultural products, industrial machinery equipment, chemicals and textile.
