LITHUANIA IS READY TO CONTINUE SUPPORTING MOLDOVA’S EURO-INTEGRATION GOALS
On 1 May, Lithuania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vygaudas Ušackas paid a working visit to Moldova. In Kishinev, the Minister met with Moldova’s President Vladimir Voronin, Chairman of the Parliament Marian Lupu and leaders of three opposition parties that won parliament seats: the leader of the Our Moldova Alliance Serafim Urechean, representatives from the Liberal Party Mihai Ghimpu and Dorin Chirtoaca, and liberal-democrat Vlad Filat.
The Minister stressed the necessity of the dialogue of the ruling circles and the opposition, and encouraged the political forces of the country to find constructive solutions in the post-election period.
Minister V.Ušackas indicated that the political crisis which had been continuing for four weeks not only damaged the image of the country, but also impeded effective functioning of state institutions.
According to the Minister, Lithuania is ready to continue supporting Moldova’s Euro-integration goals and the necessary reforms by sharing the experience and expert knowledge that had been accumulated during Lithuania’s integration into the European Union.
Head of Lithuania’s diplomacy promised to the authorities of Moldova and the opposition leaders to initiate the dialogue in the EU on the facilitation of visa regime.
Minister V.Ušackas encouraged the representatives of Moldova’s authorities to represent the country at the highest level during the inaugural Eastern Partnership summit on 7 May in Prague.
