LITHUANIA IS INTERESTED IN DEVELOPING CLOSE RELATIONS WITH GERMANY

On 1 June in Vilnius, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Asta Skaisgirytė Liauškienė met with Werner Hoyer, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office. Vice-Minister A.Skaisgirytė Liauškienė expressed regret that the visit of German Chancellor Angela Merkel to Lithuania was cancelled. W.Hoyer assured that efforts would be made to organize the Chancellor’s visit already this year.

Bilateral cooperation, the EU 2020 Strategy for economic growth and employment, energy security, international security issues – NATO’s new Strategic Concept and NATO Baltic Air-policing mission - were discussed during the meeting.

The EU’s relations with its neighbours in the East - Russia, Belarus and Ukraine - were also discussed.
