Lithuania is grateful to France for enhanced security and defence cooperation, says Lithuania’s Foreign Minister

On 11 May, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius welcomed Philippe Jeantaud, the new Ambassador of France to Lithuania who assumed office. The Minister noted that Lithuania and France had enjoyed very good bilateral relationship and emphasized strengthening cooperation in the future.

“Lithuania is grateful to France for enhanced security and defence cooperation and for its active participation in the NATO’s air policing mission and protection of the airspace over the Baltic States,” said Linkevičius.

At the upcoming Eastern Partnership Summit in Riga, Lithuania expects the support of France and other member states for the goals of the Eastern Partnership countries, for their European perspective, greater mobility and deeper relations.

The head of Lithuania’s diplomacy expressed his gratitude to France for its support for Lithuania’s  accession to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and expressed hope for further cooperation with French experts.

Ambassador Philippe Jeantaud replaced the ambassador of France Maryse Berniau who completed her mandate in Lithuania in March.
