It was noted that bilateral cooperation had significantly expanded over the past few years – the trade turnover exceeded EUR 100 million and cultural cooperation intensified. 776 Indian students are currently studying at Lithuanian higher education institutions.

The head of the Lithuanian delegation emphasized that a high-level visit of Indian officials to Lithuania and the opening of the Embassy of India in Vilnius would further intensify the relations.

The Lithuanian representatives took the opportunity to acquaint the Indian partners with their views on security situation in the Baltic Sea region and Eastern Europe, and to voice their concerns over the safety of the Astravets nuclear power plant that was being constructed in Lithuania’s neighbourhood.

The Lithuania-India political consultations have been organised for the seventh time already since 1995.
