Lithuania handed a diplomatic note to Russia expressing strong protest

On 20 January, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania handed a diplomatic note expressing strong protest to the representative of the Russian Embassy in Lithuania over the massive attack of Ukraine by the Russian Federation's air forces the previous night. At least three hundred different types of long-range drones, dozens of cruise and ballistic missiles were launched in the attack. Due to the damage caused by the Russian strikes, residents of the capital of Ukraine and six other areas face significant disruptions to power, water, and heating services.

The note stresses that such unjustifiable actions by the Russian armed forces, targeting the country's infrastructure and causing suffering among civilians, constitute gross violations of the norms of international humanitarian law and are war crimes. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reminds that these war crimes are not subject to any statute of limitations, allowing for prosecution of the  commissioners and perpetrators of such acts.

The Republic of Lithuania demands that the Russian Federation immediately ceases its aggression against Ukraine, withdraws its occupying forces from the entire internationally recognised territory of Ukraine, and compensates for all damage suffered by Ukraine as a result of the Russian aggression.
