Lithuania-France political consultations focus on bilateral cooperation, issues on the international agenda

On 15 April in Paris, the Political Director of the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry Dalius Čekuolis met with the Political Director of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs Jacques Audibert. The meeting focused on events in Ukraine, as well as relations with Russia in light of the Ukrainian crisis.

When discussing issues on the United Nations (UN) Security Council agenda, J.Audibert pointed out that France very highly appreciated Lithuania’s contribution to the provision of logistical assistance to the French-led Operation Sangaris, sanctioned by the UN Security Council, in the Central African Republic (CAR).

According to D.Čekuolis, this sets an excellent example of cooperation in the context of both multilateral and bilateral relations between Lithuania and France. The Spartan transport aircraft of the Lithuanian Air Force with its 10-man crew departed for the CAR on 2 April.

The Political Directors also discussed the EU’s Eastern Partnership policy, situations in Iran, Mali, Syria and the Middle East region, as well as other issues on the UN Security Council agenda.
