LITHUANIA ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE SOLOMON ISLANDS
On 20 September in New York, Ambassador Dalius Čekuolis, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations, and Ambassador Collin Beck, Permanent Representative of the Solomon Islands to the United Nations, signed on behalf of the governments of Lithuania and the Solomon Islands a Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations.
This is expected to a lead to a closer cooperation between the two countries. The partnership with the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries is also one of the EU’s foreign policy priorities.
The Solomon Islands is a group of almost a thousand islands in the South Pacific Ocean, east of Papua New Guinea. The total area is about 28,450 square kilometres. The population is 550 thousand. The capital city of Honiara is located on the island of Guadalcanal.
The Solomon Islands is the 161st country with which Lithuania has established diplomatic relations.
