LITHUANIA ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH THE FEDERATED STATES OF MICRONESIA

On 4 November, Lithuania established diplomatic relations with the 174th country - the Federated States of Micronesia - which is situated in the western Pacific Ocean and consists of more than 600 islands. Ambassador Raimonda Murmokaitė, Permanent Representative of Lithuania to the United Nations, and Ambassador Jane Chigiyal, Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations signed a Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations in New York.

The countries also expressed their willingness to promote bilateral cooperation in political, economic, social and cultural fields.

The establishment of diplomatic relations with the Federated States of Micronesia is important for Lithuania’s Presidency of the EU Council and for cooperation within international organisations.
