LITHUANIA ESTABLISHES DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH CAMEROON
On 16 October, Lithuania established diplomatic relations with the 173rd country, which is Cameroon. Cameroon is often referred to as “Africa in miniature” for its geological and cultural diversity. In New York, the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius and Cameroon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Tommo Monthé signed a Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations.
The countries also expressed their willingness to actively promote mutual understanding, strengthen the friendly relationship between the two countries, and boost bilateral cooperation in political, economic, social and cultural fields.
The establishment of diplomatic relations with Cameroon is important for the Lithuanian Presidency of the EU Council and for securing the support of this Central African country to Lithuanian initiatives in international organisations.
