LITHUANIA ESTABLISHED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH SURINAME

On 26 March in New York, Lithuania‘s Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius and Ambassador Henry L. MacDonald, Permanent Representative of Suriname to the United Nations, on behalf of the Governments of their countries signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Suriname.

This step will encourage the two countries to cooperate in frames of the United Nations and its specialized agencies. Moreover, the cooperation with Caribbean countries is important in the context of the common foreign policy of the European Union.

Suriname is the 164th country with which Lithuania established diplomatic relations.
