LITHUANIA ESTABLISHED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH NAURU
On 28 June, Lithuanian Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Dalius Čekuolis and Permanent Representative of Nauru to the United Nations, Ambassador Marlene Moses on behalf of the Governments of their countries signed a joint communiqué on the establishment of diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Nauru.
Nauru, one of the smallest countries in the world, is in the southwest Pacific Ocean. Nauru has about 10 thousand residents and covers just 21 square kilometres. Therefore, Nauru has no official capital. The city of Yaren, where are all state institutions are located, is the capital de facto.The island gained its independence in 1968. Nauru is a republic with a parliamentary system of government.
Nauru is the 157th country with which Lithuania established diplomatic relations.
