LITHUANIA ELECTED TO WORLD HERITAGE COMMITTEE

On 15 October at the 14th General Assembly of states parties of UNESCO World Heritage Convention, which took place simultaneously with the 32nd UNESCO General Conference, Lithuania was elected a member of the World Heritage Committee. This is a very significant evaluation of the concerted efforts of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Permanent Representation at the UNESCO, as 28 countries competed for 8 vacancies. At this General Assembly, Lithuania was also elected to other committees, to which it stood as a candidate, namely to the International Committee for Promoting the Return of Cultural Property to its Countries of Origin or its Restitution in Case of Illicit Appropriation and the Executive Committee of the International Campaign for the Establishment of the Nubia Museum in Aswan and the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation in Cairo.
