LITHUANIA DEPOSITES THE INSTRUMENT OF RATIFICATION OF THE ADDITIONAL PROTOCOL TO THE CMR CONVENTION CONCERNING THE ELECTRONIC CONSIGNMENT NOTE

On 7 March, the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations deposited with the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the Instrument of Ratification of the Additional Protocol to the Convention on the Contract for the International Carriage of Goods by Road (CMR) concerning the electronic consignment note (e-CMR).

The Seimas of Lithuania ratified Additional Protocol to the CMR concerning the electronic consignment note (e-CMR) on 12 November 2010.

Lithuania acceded to the CMR Convention in 1993. In order to set out the legal framework for the use of the electronic consignment notes for international transport haulage, Additional Protocol to the CMR concerning the electronic consignment note (e-CMR) was signed at Geneva on 27 May 2008.

The Protocol was signed seeking to facilitate the issuance of a voluntary consignment note allowing the use of electronic means for recording and managing consignment note data. Electronic consignment note is used for the carriage of goods by rail, air, sea and inland waterway transport.

The Additional Protocol will allow the carriers and forwarders of the signatory States to faster and simpler draft, and modify when necessary, transportation contracts for international road haulage.
