LITHUANIA DEPOSITED THE INSTRUMENT OF ACCEPTANCE BY THE EU OF THE PROTOCOL AMENDING THE GOVERNMENT PROCUREMENT AGREEMENT

At an event attended by representatives from the EU Delegation to the UN on 3 December in Geneva, diplomats from the Permanent Mission of Lithuania to the United Nations Office and other international organisations in Geneva deposited the Instrument of Acceptance of the Protocol Amending the Agreement on Government Procurement (GPA).

The GPA is a WTO plurilateral agreement that regulates the government procurement of goods and services by the public authorities of the parties to the agreement, based on the principles of openness, transparency and non-discrimination. To date, the revised Agreement has 15 parties, including the EU.

At the Eighth WTO Ministerial Conference in 2011, a decision was made on the outcomes of the re-negotiation of the Agreement, which aims at making government procurement more transparent. The revised Agreement will enter into force when it is ratified by 10 members. The European Union affirmed its approval of the Protocol Amending the Agreement on Government Procurement at a ministerial meeting during the WTO’s Ninth Ministerial Conference in Bali.
