LITHUANIA CONTINUES PREPARATIONS FOR THE EU PRESIDENCY IN 2013
On 17 November Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs organized a seminar “Lithuania’s preparations for the EU Presidency: the work done and future objectives”, that aimed at discussing Lithuania’s preparations for the Presidency of the European Union in 2013.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Algimantas Rimkūnas stressed that today it is important to plan and prepare properly for the European Union’s Presidency.
“This will be a serious challenge for Lithuania’s public service, because the presiding state should ensure effective work at the meetings of the EU Council and more than 250 agencies,” Mr Rimkūnas said.
Lithuania’s representatives should have not only profound knowledge of all policy spheres of the European Union but also understand organization of work of the EU institutions, speak good English, French or German.
At the moment during the preparations for the EU Presidency special attention should be paid to strengthening of administrative capacities of Lithuanian public servants and to effective planning of human resources.
Representatives of Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Interior, Lithuania’s Institute of Public Administration and Institute of International Relations and Political Science of Vilnius University spoke at the seminar.
