LITHUANIA CONDEMNS TERRORIST ATTACKS IN LONDON AND EXPRESSES ITS SOLIDARITY WITH THE UNITED KINGDOM
Lithuania condemns outrageous terrorist attacks in London and expresses its solidarity with the United Kingdom, victims and their families.
On 25 March 2004 the heads of the states of the European Union adopted a Declaration on Combating Terrorism, in which the countries committed to helping each other both to prevent terrorist attacks and eliminate the consequences of these attacks.
The attacks in London are yet another sign of the threat of terrorism for European countries and reminds us about the necessity to join attempts to fight it. After the events of 11 September the U.S., the European Union and Nato undertook measures against the international terrorism, which were reinforced after attacks in Madrid on 11 March last year.
The events in London show that the world community should be concentrated for implementation of the planned measures against terrorism.
At the start of its European Union presidency the United Kingdom introduced initiatives on combating terrorism as well. Lithuania as a reliable member of the EU and NATO confirms its international obligations to join common efforts to curb the international terrorism.
