Lithuania categorically rejects Russia's new threats against Kyiv and its diplomats

On 26 May, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned a representative of the Embassy of the Russian Federation and handed a note of strong protest over the threat of mass shelling of Kyiv expressed in the statement of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs of 25 May and the related call for foreign citizens, including diplomats, to leave the city.

Lithuania categorically rejects Russia's repeated threats to use force against Ukraine that are in clear violation of the United Nations Charter. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs notes that the Russian Federation is trying to manipulate international humanitarian law extremely cynically, which it has systematically and massively violated since 2014, by launching an illegal and unprovoked military aggression against Ukraine.

In the document presented to the Russian embassy, Lithuania reminds Russia of its imminent responsibility for committing war crimes and crimes against international humanitarian law, and calls for an immediate end to the aggression against Ukraine, withdrawal of all forces from the occupied territories, and compensation for all damage suffered as a result of the aggression.

The same type of protests were also expressed today in a coordinated manner to Russian representatives in other EU capitals.
