Lithuania becomes a founding member of new European Center of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management
On 25 February, at the Constitutive Meeting of the new Center of Excellence for Civilian Crisis Management (CoE) in Berlin, Germany, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Germany Darius Jonas Semaška signed the statute. Along with other 13 member states of the European Union, Lithuania became a founding member of the new CoE.
The CoE is expected to gather, analyze and manage information on the civilian Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), to standardize training and procedures, and to take interest in the implementation of the activities and mandates of civilian EU missions.
In a spirit of solidarity, Lithuania seeks to contribute to strengthening the civilian dimension of the EU’s CSDP. Lithuania’s CoE membership and joint activities can also have a positive impact on further developing and building its strategic relationship with Germany.
The established CoE is Germany’s contribution towards strengthening civilian CSDP through the implementation of the strategic guidelines for the strengthening of civilian CSDP of November 2018.
Together with Lithuania, the CoE was joined by Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, and Sweden. Participation in the CoE is open to EU member states and NATO allies.
