Lithuania and the New York State strengthen partnership
On 23 September, Kęstutis Budrys, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Hope Knight, the President, Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner of Empire State Development, signed a renewed Memorandum of Cooperation to strengthen ties in the fields of economy, trade, investment, science and innovation.
The original memorandum, signed in 1991, was one of the first international agreements by Lithuania after the restoration of its independence and significantly contributed to the country's economic transformation. After 35 years, the renewed partnership reflects a new phase of cooperation between Lithuania and New York State, with a special focus on the high-tech sector, science, innovation, investment and trade.
“Today we are relaunching the historic partnership and taking it to a new level. Our aim is not only to strengthen dialogue, but also to deliver concrete results: closer cooperation between business and scientific communities, increased opportunities for technology transfer, new investments and innovation projects", stressed Budrys.
New York State is one of the largest economies in the United States. With a GDP of approximately USD 2.3 trillion in 2025, it ranks among the three largest state economies in the country.
