LITHUANIA AND THE CZECH REPUBLIC STRENGTHEN BILATERAL COOPERATION
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Petras Vaitiekūnas together with the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic Přemysl Sobotka, currently on an official visit to Lithuania, discussed the possibilities for closer cooperation between the Baltic States and the Vyshegrad countries.
P.Vaitiekūnas stressed that this cooperation is of particular importance to the European Union, which is striving for more solidarity among member states and a consolidated position of the countries on the most important problems.
During the meeting, the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania discussed important issues regarding the European Neighbourhood Policy.
P.Vaitiekūnas and P.Sobotka also discussed energy security and nuclear energy matters.
On the subject of cooperation related to NATO issues, the Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that it is the interest of Lithuania to see the Czech Republic joining the NATO air patrol mission in Lithuania.
The schedule for the visit of the President of the Senate of the Parliament of the Czech Republic also includes meetings with the President of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus, Prime Minister Gediminas Kirkilas and Speaker of the Seimas Viktoras Muntianas.
