LITHUANIA AND SWEDEN INITIAL AGREEMENT ON MARITIME BORDERS

The Agreement between the Government of Lithuania and the Government of Sweden concerning Delimitation of the Maritime Boundary of the Exclusive Economic Zone and the Continental Shelf in the Baltic Sea was initialled at the meeting of delegations of Lithuania and Sweden on 11 December in Vilnius.

The countries plan to sign the agreement in 2014. The Lithuanian-Swedish maritime boundary, which has a length of about 15 kilometres, is being delimited for the first time in history.

At the meeting, the Lithuanian delegation was led by the Deputy Director of the Eastern Neighbourhood Policy Department. The Swedish delegation was headed by Marie Jacobsson, the Principal Legal Adviser on International Law and Ambassador with special responsibility for international law at the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
