Lithuania and Rwanda to strengthen bilateral cooperation
On 18 November, Lithuania’s Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas received the first Ambassador of Rwanda to Lithuania Jean Pierre Karabaranga, who arrived in Lithuania to present his letters of credence to President Dalia Grybauskaitė.
The Foreign Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania was ready to fully contribute to the development of bilateral relations in the fields of trade, education and in other areas. The meeting also discussed cooperation within international fora, and, firstly, within the United Nations Security Council, because Lithuania and Rwanda are currently its non-permanent members. Moreover, N.Germanas drew attention to Rwanda’s continued active involvement in the United Nations peacekeeping missions (Rwanda ranks among the top ten contributors of personnel to the UN peacekeeping).
This year, Rwanda marks 20 years since the genocide of the Tutsi minority. Rwanda’s great efforts to reduce poverty, promote economic growth and reconciliation have helped to obtain positive results. Rwanda ranks among the 20 fastest-growing economies in the world, and is the 2nd easiest place to do business in Africa.
The Ambassador of Rwanda to Lithuania resides in The Hague. Lithuania and Rwanda established diplomatic relations on 27 March 2013.
