LITHUANIA AND RUSSIA’S KALININGRAD REGION DISCUSS GUIDELINES FOR COOPERATION
On 27 February in Kaliningrad, Undersecretary of Lithuania's Foreign Ministry Evaldas Ignatavičius and Governor of the Kaliningrad Region of Russian Federation Georgiy Boos discussed the possibilities of joint actions in response to the economic crisis: sustaining the dynamics of trade, investments, freight flows.
During the meeting, the perspectives of cooperation on energy issues after the closure of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant in Lithuania were discussed. The interlocutors also discussed development of tourism in the Curonian Spit, in the region of Vištytis Lake, the possibilities for visa regime liberalization.
In Kaliningrad, the Undersecretary of the Ministry took part in the first meeting of the Commission on the Law Enforcement Bodies’ Cooperation of the Council on the Long-Term Cooperation between the Republic of Lithuania and the Kaliningrad Region of the Russian Federation. The task of the Commission is the joint fight against organized crime, smuggling, drug trafficking and the disclosure of complex crimes.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs E.Ignatavičius also met with the representatives of the local Lithuanian community and discussed the events planned for this year and the activities of Lithuanian Sunday school.
E.Ignatavičius also visited the University of I.Kant, where he and the Dean of the Faculty of Philology and Journalism together with the teachers agreed to pursue the development of Lithuanian studies in this faculty.
