On January 19, Lithuania and Russia exchanged notes confirming the agreement reached last year on the application of bilateral confidence and security building measures. The foreign ministries of Lithuania and Russia reached the agreement in May 2000.
According to this agreement, Lithuania and Russia agree to receive an additional visit on evaluating military information in a military unit in Lithuania and Kaliningrad region (above the quota defined in the Vienna Document of 1999). The nearest exchange of visits will be held in the second half of 2001.
The parties will also exchange information on military forces in Lithuania and Kaliningrad region in accordance with the Agreement on Conventional Forces in Europe. The exchange will be made on December 15, annually and the data for the next year will be provided. This exchange of information will be made on bilateral basis in addition to the format provided by the Vienna Document.
