LITHUANIA AND POLAND AGREE TO ACT TOGETHER IN THE FUTURE
On 30 November Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis during his visit to Warsaw discussed topical issues of bilateral relations, regional and Euro-Atlantic cooperation with the President of Poland Aleksandr Kwasniewski, Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Stefan Meller, the Minister of Transport and Construction Jerzy Polaczek, the Minister of Economy and Labour Piotr Wozniak.
Considering the EU budget perspectives Minister Valionis underlined that Lithuanian Government opposes the proposal to reduce the EU budget for 2007-2013 consequently to reduce the support for the new EU countries. The parties discussed the coordination of activities in the European institutions when striving for common goals.
The Head of Lithuanian diplomacy thanked the President of Poland for country’s participation in NATO Baltic States’ air space policing operation. From 1 January 2006 Polish Air Force will be on duty in the Baltic States to ensure the security of the Baltic air space.
Lithuanian and Polish foreign ministers noted that both countries should follow the strategic partnership principles, foster the development of infrastructure projects important for both countries, cooperate in the EU neighbourhood policy sphere, create new opportunities for cultural exchange.
Ministers Valionis and Meller agreed that the discussion of the EU budget problems should not affect the European solidarity principle, and disagreement on the EU budget would trouble not only several Member States but the whole European Union.
Minister Valionis agreed with the Minister of Transport and Construction Jerzy Polaczek and the Minister of Economy Piotr Wozniak to consolidate efforts for implementation of common infrastructure projects, perspectives of nuclear energetics.
