Lithuania and Namibia to strengthen bilateral cooperation

On 8 March, the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Darius Skusevičius received the new Ambassador of Namibia to Lithuania Bonny Haufiku. Lithuania’s Foreign Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania was ready to contribute in every way to the development of bilateral relations in the economic, educational and cultural fields, and to share the experience of reforms. In the meeting, the officials also discussed issues related to cooperation in multilateral forums.

The Ambassador of Namibia also held a meeting with the Foreign Ministry’s Director of the Latin America, Africa, Asia and Pacific Department Eduardas Borisovas. Having discussed matters of possible common interest, Namibia’s Ambassador stressed that there was great potential for economic cooperation, especially in the fields of agriculture and transport, and in the Namibian human resource development.

Namibia is one of the least densely populated countries in the world. The country gained its independence on 21 March 1990. Political stability has helped anchor economic growth in Namibia. It is an important partner for the EU in the Southern African Region. The country is an active member state of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and of the Southern African Customs Union (SACU).

Lithuania and Namibia established their diplomatic relations on 12 December 2005. The Ambassador Haufiku is the third diplomatic representative of Namibia to Lithuania, who resides in Helsinki.
