Lithuania and Morocco hold political consultations in Vilnius
Political consultations of the Lithuanian and Moroccan Foreign Ministries were held on 25 March in Vilnius. During the consultations, officials discussed bilateral cooperation, relations between the European Union and Morocco, partnership within the United Nations and other international organizations.
The Lithuanian delegation was led by the Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Neris Germanas, and the Moroccan delegation was headed by the Minister Delegate for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Morocco Mbarka Bouaida.
According to N.Germanas, the potential of bilateral economic cooperation has not yet been fully exploited. The officials exchanged views on further actions in this area and discussed a possibility to use Morocco as a bridge to Sub-Saharan African markets. According to the Vice-Minister, Lithuanian and Moroccan entrepreneurs need help to establish direct contacts.
N.Germanas positively evaluated Morocco’s ongoing democratic reforms and the Morocco-EU relations. During the meeting, the officials welcomed the beneficial cooperation between the two countries within international organizations, especially the United Nations.
Lithuanian and Moroccan diplomats also discussed events in North Africa, Russia, the situation in Ukraine and Crimea. When speaking about the situation in Ukraine, the Vice-Minister and the Minister Delegate agreed that there must be a political solution and that the country’s territorial integrity had to be maintained.
