LITHUANIA AND JAPAN SIGNED CULTURAL SUPPORT TREATY
On 12 September during a solemn ceremony in Vilnius Picture Gallery Lithuanian and Japanese Governments’ treaty of support for the Lithuanian Art Museum was signed.
The treaty, according to which Japan allocates 30,1 million yens (0,76 million litas) for improvement of audiovisual equipment of the Lithuanian Art Museum, was signed by Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis and Japan’s Ambassador to Lithuania Gotaro Ogawa.
During the ceremony Lithuanian Foreign Minister congratulated the strengthening relations between Lithuania and Japan and thanked Japanese Government for constant support offered to Lithuanian cultural institutions.
This is the eighth cultural grant of the Japanese Government to Lithuania. In 1997 it was given to the National M. K. Čiurlionis Art Museum, in 1999 – to the National Martynas Mažvydas Library, in 2000 – to the Centre of Orientalistics of Vilnius University, in 2001 – to the Japanese Language Centre of Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University, 2002 – to the Lithuanian Music Academy, in 2003 – to the Lithuanian National Museum and in 2004 – to the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre.
