LITHUANIA AND HUNGARY AGREE ON THE IMPORTANCE OF THE EASTERN PARTNERSHIP SUMMIT

On 27 May in Brussels, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with the Hungarian Foreign Minister János Martonyi and noted that the two countries shared similar positions on the European Union’s Eastern Partnership initiative and on the importance of the Eastern Partnership Summit, which is to be held in Vilnius. “The success of the Summit is important for the entire European Union. We welcome Hungary’s engagement and support, and we hope to be successful in reaching our common goals: signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area if this country meets all EU requirements and initialling Association Agreements with Georgia, Moldova and Armenia. We expect that Hungary to be represented at the highest level,” Linkevičius said.

The Foreign Minister thanked Hungary for its support to Lithuania in the run-up to the Presidency of the EU Council – for organised seminars, consultations and offers to contribute to the organisation of meetings.

The meeting also discussed cooperation within international organisations and Hungary’s dialogue with European institutions on European values.
