LITHUANIA AND GEORGIA OUTLINE PROSPECTS FOR FUTURE COOPERATION

On 15 February Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Antanas Valionis met with Georgian State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Giorgi Baramidze and discussed future development of bilateral relations, energy situation in the region and other topical issues.

Georgian State Minister informed about Georgia's progress in implementation of NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan, negotiations with European Commission on European Neighbourhood Action Plan for Georgia, reforms processes in the country, Georgian Parliament's decision on Russian peacemakers in South Osetia that should be taken today.

State Minister Baramidze thanked for Lithuania's support to Georgia's aspirations to integrate into Euro-Atlantic structures and for Lithuanian Government’s assistance during the energy crisis in Georgia.

The Ministers discussed energy security issues and alternative ways of energy resources transit to Europe.

Minister Valionis congratulated Mr Baramidze on receipt of honourable Lithuanian award – the  Cross of Commander of the Order for Merits to Lithuania.
