LITHUANIA AND GEORGIA ARE NOT ONLY IMPLEMENTING ARCHITECTURE PROJECTS IN THE CITIES, BUT ALSO PLANNING TOGETHER TO SPREAD VALUES IN THE REGION, SAYS LITHUANIAN FOREIGN MINISTER
An exhibition of reconstruction projects of the Khashuri town square in Georgia that were designed by students from Kaunas was opened at the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 19 October. On that occasion, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis stressed that joint Lithuanian-Georgian projects were to be developed also in the dimension of values.
“The main task of today’s political architecture is design, actualization and dissemination of democracy, European values and principles of prosperity across the Eastern Europe. This requires great skills. When implementing this task, Lithuania and Georgia act as superior architects,” reads the Minister’s welcome letter for guests.According to A.Ažubalis, the exhibition of the conceptual projects of the reconstruction of the main town square that were designed by students from Kaunas University of Technology at the request of the Khashuri municipality, practically testify to the partnership between Lithuania and Georgia that brings benefits to the citizens of both countries.
“Lithuanians are long-term supporters of a safe, democratic and prospering Georgia. This is evidenced also by our upsurge activities. Already this year we have been implementing eight projects on development cooperation in Georgia that aim to help war affected populations, promote women’s entrepreneurship, support regional development, accelerate the use of new and environmentally friendly technology,” reads the Minister’s welcome letter.
Ažubalis’s letter assured the assembled that also in the future Georgia would remain a long-term strategic priority of Lithuania’s development cooperation policy, which would continue to receive special attention and considerable amount of state support.
The Minister issued commendations to the students who designed the projects for the Khashuri Municipality and letters of thanks were presented to the students whose projects were most popular: Dominyka Sluckutė, Laura Mačiotaitė, Eleonora Plepytė and Neringa Matačiūnaitė.
This summer, an exhibition of the projects designed by third-year students of Kaunas University of Technology, who are doing their BA’s in Architecture, will run at the Khhashuri Municipality. Residents of this town will be able to choose their favorite project.
Lithuania has been providing development cooperation assistance to Georgia since 2005. Last year, the Lithuanian Embassy in Georgia implemented a total of 17 projects worth 153 thousand Litas.
