Lithuania allocates humanitarian aid to Fiji and Ecuador
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania has allocated EUR 10,000 in humanitarian aid to the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women for victims impacted by a tropical cyclone in Fiji and EUR 10,000 in humanitarian aid to the Government of Ecuador to help earthquake survivors in Ecuador.
This aid is Lithuania’s contribution to international efforts to provide emergency humanitarian and disaster relief assistance. In February, category 5 tropical cyclone Winston spread its devastation in Fiji and displaced 350,000 people, including 170 thousand women. In April, an earthquake with magnitude 7.8 on the Richter scale struck Ecuador. More than 400 people were killed, at least 4000 were injured and more than 370 buildings were destroyed.
In 2015, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania allocated EUR 354.3 thousand in humanitarian aid. Additionally, other institutions allocated EUR 256.6 thousand in humanitarian aid from the Reserve Fund of the Government of Lithuania.
