LITHUANIA AIMS TO FULFILL ITS DEVELOPMENT ASSISTANCE OBLIGATIONS TIMELY

On 24 May at the meeting of ministers for development cooperation within the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels, Lithuania’s Permanent Representative to the European Union Ambassador Raimundas Karoblis stated that Lithuania would meet its financial obligations timely and increase its official development assistance to 0.33 percent of GNP by 2015.

A report on EU development aid was presented at the meeting. EU member states were invited to make extra efforts to meet their obligations until 2015.

EU representatives also discussed access to drinking water in developing countries, its impact on the development of countries, progress in implementing the United Nations Millennium Development Goals and efforts to curb climate change.

Ministers for development discussed the issues of development and provision of assistance in conflict areas like Southern Sudan and Ivory Coast.
