Linkevičius supports efforts toward the reunification of Cyprus
On 1 October, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Linas Linkevičius congratulated the Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides on the Independence Day of Cyprus and expressed his strong support of efforts toward the reunification of the island.
“Lithuania fully supports your steps needed to reach this historic agreement, which will make a significant contribution to peace, security and prosperity in Europe,” reads the letter of congratulations by Linkevičius.
According to Lithuania’s Foreign Minister, the political, business, tourism, and academic ties between Lithuania and Cyprus that are based on common values and principles will be further successfully developed, as well as cooperation on topical issues in the European Union and other international organisations.
The Republic of Cyprus declared its independence in 1960. This year marks the 56th anniversary of the island’s independence. Lithuania and Cyprus established diplomatic relations on 3 December 1992.
