Linkevičius meets with Georgia’s Minister of Defence, stresses importance of continuing reforms

On 27 September in Vilnius, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with Georgia’s Minister of Defence Levan Izoria. The Foreign Ministers discussed further European and Euro-Atlantic integration of Georgia and regional security issues.

“We welcome Georgia’s close cooperation with NATO. Georgia, through its actions, demonstrates its credibility as a NATO partner that has contributed significantly to strengthening international security,” said Lithuania’s Foreign Minister.

As regards Georgia’s integration into NATO, Linkevičius noted that Lithuania supported Georgian aspirations and called for using all available means to strengthen the country’s cooperation with NATO. According to Linkevičius, Georgia has all necessary and practical instruments that the country needs to join NATO. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister called for continuing the implementation of democratic reforms. Linkevičius also called on all political parties to join efforts to achieve their common goal. According to him, Georgia has to be ready when an opportunity arrives. Lithuania’s Foreign Minister assured that Lithuania strongly supported Georgia on its path to European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
