Linkevičius: Lithuania is interested in developing a dialogue with Russia’s civil society

On 18 May, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Linas Linkevičius met with representatives of Russia’s civil society, who are attending the annual Vilnius Russia Forum that kicks off today. The participants of the meetings exchanged their views on processes of domestic policy in present-day Russia, discussed relations between Russia and the West.

When speaking with Mikhail Khodorkovsky, founder of Open Russia movement, Vladimir Kara-Murza, who currently receives treatment in the U.S.A. after attempts to poison him, Zhana Nemtsova, daughter of the murdered Russian opposition politician Boris Nemtsov, Ilya Yashin, one of Nemtsov’s closest associates, Marina Litvinenko, widow of Alexander Litvinenko who was poisoned, and other Russian public figures,  Linkevičius stressed that Lithuania was interested in maintaining and developing a dialogue and contacts with Russia’s civil society.

“Ties of people from the European Union and Russia play a very important role in Lithuania-Russia relations. The Kremlin’s policy and the people of Russia is not the same thing,” said Linkevičius.

The fourth Vilnius Russia Forum takes place in Vilnius on 18 and 19 May of this year.
